The Radio Corporation of
America is created at the request of the United States Government to provide the American
public with international communications facilities free of foreign control and adequate
for the country's needs in peace or war. The first commercial overseas radiogram is
transmitted by the company to London the following year. |
The system becomes so
extensive that RCA organizes a wholly-owned subsidiary, RCA Communications, Inc., to
concentrate on further development of international communications. |

RCA Communications introduces the
printerized, tape-relay system in international communications. This
"tape-relay" system together with automatic error-detection and correction
equipment introduced in the same year by RCA. revolutionizes the speed and accuracy of
handling and transmitting overseas telegrams. |
International leased channel
service is introduced to the United States by RCA. Offices anywhere in this country are
able to be connected continuously, by direct telegraph line, with offices anywhere in the
world. The service remains the fastest available form of international communications. |

International telex service is
introduced by the company. American offices equipped with RCA teleprinters are able
to call teleprinter equipped offices overseas and can hold a two-way conversation in
writing. |
We introduce international data
transmission. For the first time, electronic computers can exchange data, at speeds
up to 1200 bits per second, across the ocean. |

RCA's Electronic Telegraph System
goes into operation, signaling the second revolution in handling and transmitting
international telegrams. |
RCA inaugurates the first
commercial transmission by satellite of international telegrams and telex calls. |

RCA introduces Aircon service.
companies with private telegraph networks can "plug in" to a master RCA Computer
system which switches their messages electronically. The same computer system can
perform reservations and inventory functions for Airlines, Hotels, Car Rental Firms, and
other businesses with similar requirements. |
Here is a photo showing two of our
RCA Giants. The picture was taken in 1972 when we all looked good but they looked Great.
Bob was an influence in the communications industry both domestically and internationally.
